Police appeal for witnesses as Wednesday Highway 11 crash victim identified

A Timmins, Ontario, man is dead and two others had to be transported to the hospital after a two-vehicle collision on Highway 11 near Cobalt, Ontario.

The deceased driver of an SUV involved in the collision has been identified as Steven Mitchell, a 57-year-old man from Timmins.

At approximately 10:04am on Wednesday, officers from the Temiskaming Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police responded to the fatal crash.

Highway 11 was closed for approximately seven hours while OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Collision Reconstructionists completed their investigation.

That investigation has revealed that a sports utility vehicle was northbound and a pickup truck was southbound on Highway 11. The vehicles collided and the driver of the SUV died at the scene, while two other people were brought to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation is continuing and the OPP is appealing to the public for assistance.
