Update #2 1:05pm: The OPP confirms one fatality in the two-vehicle crash near Cobalt, Ontario. The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

OPP Technical Collision Investigators and Collision Reconstructionists are currently at the scene conducting an investigation with the assistance of a drone.

Highway 11 remains closed between Highway 64 and Highway 65 and is expected to be closed for several hours. For those who would like to detour, northbound motorists can utilize Highway 63 in North Bay, Ontario, and southbound vehicles can use Highway 65 in Temiskaming Shores, Ontario. Both detours will take motorists to Highway 101 and through Temiscaming, Quebec.

Update #1 @11:43am: The OPP confirms neither vehicle involved was a tractor-trailer.

For motorists heading north on Highway 11, the road is completely closed between Highway 64 and Highway 65 due to a fatal collision.

The OPP reports a two-vehicle collision resulting in at least one fatality at 10:44am.

There is no detour available in the direct vicinity of the crash. If leaving from North Bay, Highway 63 to Highway 101 through Quebec is an option.

OPP says the highway is “expected to be closed for an extended period of time.” The closure is between Timiskaming Shores and just north of Marten River.
