CHARGES LAID AFTER TRUCK AND TRAIN CRASH IN NORTH BAY

A train derailment was narrowly avoided in North Bay today.

A truck ran into a train’s engine unit at a railroad crossing at the North Bay bypass at around 5:15 AM. The truck was loaded with gasoline, but did not spill its load. The train did not come off the tracks but one rail car had severe damage. There were no injuries to the train crew or the truck driver.

The driver of the truck, a 45-year-old man from Marlbank, now faces three charges including failing to stop at a rail crossing. The highway was closed for over an hour this morning for investigation.
