Alouette Bus Lines and union reach agreement, buses resume Monday

The wheels on the bus will be going round and round on Monday (Apr. 27).

The Nipissing Parry Sound Student Transportation Services says Alouette Bus Lines and the United Steel Workers Union representing its drivers have reached an agreement.

In a release, the United Steelworkers (USW) says members secured wage increase, retroactive wage adjustments, increases in each year of the agreement, and a signing bonus.

“Our members showed courage and determination every step of the way,” says Stephanie Gunson, USW Local 2020 President. “This result reflects their commitment to improving not just their own working conditions, but the future of school bus drivers across the province. We are calling for a mandated minimum of $24 per hour for all bus drivers in the province, in line with the current benchmark, and will continue to push for the government to take action.”

Student Transportation Services Executive Director Chuck Seguin says all routes operated by Alouette will run as scheduled this Monday, subject to cancellations or delays.

The drivers have been striking since late February.
