Summer in the Park says no to indoor concerts

The new chair of Summer in the Park says don’t expect the group to use Memorial Gardens as the site for future waterfront concerts.  John Strang says holding the concerts at the arena costs too much.  Strang says production costs would double because the concerts are held Friday and Saturday night during the August long weekend.  Also the waterfront can accommodate 10,000 while the Gardens can only handle half that number.  Strang says it means introducing sky high ticket prices to recover the expense, something the committee won’t do.  The comments were in response to a suggestion from councillor Sarah Campbell to use the Gardens to eliminate rained out performances.
