The West Nipissing Red Scarf Project- As part of the World AIDS Awareness Day

December 1, 2023 @ 1:30 pm - 2:00 pm EST

November 24th to December 1st is AIDS Awareness Week; Friday, December 1st is World AIDS Day and December 1st to December 7th is Indigenous AIDS Awareness Week! Knitters and crocheters have been hard at work since January preparing red scarves for this annual community initiative. The red scarves are a larger scale symbol of the red ribbon that represent HIV/AIDS Awareness. With this year’s theme ‘LET COMMUNITIES LEAD’, local agencies such as the West Nipissing Community Health Centre, the West Nipissing Knitting Circle, the Alliance Centre, the Lawrance Commanda Health Centre, the West Nipissing Family Health Team, Collège Boréal and West Nipissing Pride are collaborating with the Aids Committee of North Bay and Area to join thousands of other communities around the globe to highlight this important initiative in West Nipissing. Throughout the week of November 24th to December 1st, representatives of these agencies and volunteers will tie red scarves bearing information about AIDS awareness in the downtown core of Sturgeon Falls and surrounding communities including Garden Village, Cache Bay, Verner, Lavigne, Field, River Valley. How can you get involved? If you see a red scarf in your community, take it, wear it and share the message to show your support for HIV/AIDS awareness. Join us in acknowledging that strength as a community is needed to support those who are living with HIV/AIDS.
