Environment Canada has cancelled a Special Weather Statement for the area but the Rainfall warning remains in effect.

Rainfall warning:

Significant rainfall is expected. The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall. Rainfall amounts of 20 to 40 mm are possible beginning tonight and ending late Wednesday.

Smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.

High levels of air pollution have developed due to smoke from forest fires.

Smoke plumes from local forest fires as well as forest fires in eastern Ontario and Quebec and Quebec have resulted in deteriorated air quality. Poor air quality may persist through the day for some areas.

Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour.

NOTICE OF HEAVY SMOKE
We continue to see heavy smoke conditions in the Northeast Region due to a large number of fires in eastern Ontario and Quebec. Smoke drift is travelling as far as north of Timmins, down through Sudbury and past Parry Sound.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) Restricted Fire Zone remains in place until further notice. OPP INVESTIGATING A COLLISION ON HIGHWAY 17

Detour

(WEST NIPISSING, ON) - Traffic will be detoured through Highway 64 in Sturgeon Falls to Highway 11, north of North Bay, while members of the Nipissing West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), investigate a motor vehicle collision involving a sports utility vehicle, passenger van and pickup truck on Highway 17, east of Landfill Site Road, Sturgeon Falls, West Nipissing.

Three people had been transported to the local hospital with serious injuries by Nipissing Paramedic Services.

The highway will remain closed in both directions, while members from the Traffic Incident Management Enforcement (T.I.M.E) investigate the collision.

Snow and ice pellets will begin on Wednesday morning before transitioning into freezing rain Wednesday afternoon. Freezing rain may be heavy at times before changing over into rain during the overnight hours. Possible gusty winds along with ice build-up may result in power outages.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

Freezing rain expected to begin Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
