The North Bay Fire Department can expect a new fire truck next year. Council’s community services committee has approved a $905,000 ladder truck which will be housed at Station 1. The new vehicle will have a 75-foot ladder which can reach most high-rises in the city. The fire department will keep its existing aerial truck which has a 100-foot ladder to be used where the new truck can’t reach. The 100-foot ladder truck is currently at Station 1 but will move the Station 3 when the 75-foot aerial truck arrives. It will take about eight months to customize and deliver the new vehicle to the fire department. Meanwhile, the department will be retiring a 28-year-old platform truck and a 23-year-old pumper. Council was told both vehicles are at the end of their usefulness.
