Local school boards offering optional literacy test

The Near North District School Board (NNDSB)  and the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board (NPSCDSB) will both be offering students an optional literacy test to participate in this spring.

The Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) requirement has been waived for students graduating in 2021.

In its place, a “field test” of an online OSSLT is being offered to grade 10, 11 and non-graduating grade 12 students which, if passed, will go toward their transcript. Graduating students do not need to take the test.

Spokespersons from both the NNDSB and NPSCDSB have confirmed they are planning an opportunity for eligible students to take the new online field test between March and June of this year.

The OSSLT measures whether students are meeting the minimum standard for literacy across all subjects up to the end of Grade 9.
