OPP promotes International Drug Awareness Day

As part of International Drug Awareness Day, OPP members will be conducting door-to-door opioid awareness and education in Sturgeon Falls.

The day seeks to create a better understanding of overdose, reduce stigma of drug-related deaths as well as create change that reduces the harms associated with drug us all while remembering those who have died or suffered permanent injury due to drug overdose.

Officers will be distributing cards and posters to residents and businesses to promote the Good Samaritan Drug Overdose Act (GSDOA), while remembering those who lost their lives to an overdose.

In 2019, there were 874 IOAD events of all kinds, held in 39 countries. People and communities came together to raise awareness of one of the world’s most urgent public health crisis – one that, unfortunately, is only getting worse.

International Overdose Awareness Day spreads the message that overdose death is preventable. Thousands of people die each year from drug overdose. They come from all walks of life. No family should ever have to go through the pain of losing a loved one because of overdose.
