The Conseil scolaire public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario (CSPNE) has approved a balanced budget for the upcoming school year.
In a release, the CSPNE says that the 5 percent budget increase falls in line with the board’s objectives in the 2017-21 strategic plan which aims to.
The board, which has two schools in Sturgeon Falls, expects an increase of 14 students this year.
The 2020-21 budget factors in the impact of having online course requirements, plus sets aside money for a student support fund. The board also plans on filling nine additional staffing positions because of additional funding from the Ministry of Education.
Denis Labelle, Chair for the board, says that he and his colleagues are pleased with the budget despite the hardships of COVID-19.
“The Board’s budget process is rigorous and focused on achieving targeted outcomes for the 2020-2021 school year, despite the uncertainties associated with the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
The CSPNE’s approved budget for the 2020-21 year totals $53,479,643.
The board does not have an official return to school plan released to the public; however, a plan was unveiled by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit regarding all school boards in the area.
