There’s a new face running community events at the Canadian Cancer Society.
Kim Kanmacher replaces Debbie Marson, who stepped down when she joined the North Bay Food Bank at the end of January as the Community Engagement Specialist.
“I am honoured and inspired to do this great community work in North Bay,” she said. “The fight for cancer is not over and I am just thrilled to be able to provide leadership in our community to raise much needed funds. So many people are touched by cancer and I am happy to lend a hand in support.”
Being a cancer survivor herself, and the honourary survivor for 2019, Kanmacher can use her own experiences to help locals in their fight.
“Coming from the honourary survivor role, I have really been able to see the good work of the Canadian Cancer Society across Canada,” she explained. “I am very impressed with where we need to go as an organization to ensure that no Canadian fears cancer in their lifetime.”
“I truly believe in walking the talk,” Kanmacher continued. “I can speak first hand of the experience that I have gone through and the experience that I have seen that others have gone through. I can certainly relate to where the needs are, in particular with research and advocacy in cancer in general.”
Come March 28, it will be two years since Kanmacher was found to be cancer-free.
