Job openings jump in May over April in Nipissing District

Significantly more employers posted job openings in Nipissing District during May compared to April.

The Labour Market Group says 463 postings went up in May, an increase of 11.3% over the previous month.

Despite the jump, LMG says the May figure is in line with May job postings from past years.

In fact, this year’s figure is slightly below the four-year average.

That average comes in at 470 postings meaning the year-over-year rate actually dropped 1.4%.

Among the top five employers looking to employ people in Nipissing, Statistics Canada led the field with 60 openings which account for nearly 15% of the May postings.

A distant second was Plan A Healthcare Staffing Solutions which was looking to fill 27 positions.

Not far behind with 21 openings was HGS.

The North Bay Regional Health Centre was the top fourth employer with 11 postings and next was Canadore College with 10 positions to fill.

Health and social assistance-related work in Nipissing made up the largest sector looking for qualified people.

This area accounted for 17.3% of all job postings in May.

Specifically, the sector was looking for 11 personal support workers in May as well as 10 registered nurses and 10 registered practical nurses.

Second, on the list of top industry sectors was public administration which had 14.7% of the job postings followed by retail trade with 13.6% of the job postings in Nipissing District.
