No mail is being delivered today in the North Bay region after local employees walked off the job Friday morning.
Keith Bradford, President of CUPW Local 576 says the sudden walkout is to protest the federal government’s back-to-work legislation.
Bradford says when legislation is used to force employees back to work it has a long-term impact on the work environment and labour relations.
Bradford says forced contracts don’t address issues like unsafe working conditions and equality for the rural carriers.

Bradford also says seniors don’t need to worry about not receiving their cheques.
He says under an agreement with Canada Post, some striking employees volunteer their services and deliver social security cheques.
Bradford says the walkout, which is scheduled for 24 hours, for now, will affect mail delivery from Sturgeon Falls to Mattawa and as far south as South River.
