The ice fishing season on Lake Nipissing is nearing an end. Next Thursday is the last day anglers can catch fish on the lake. Conservation Officer Micah Plourde says after that you have until the end of the month to remove your hut from the lake. Plourde says failure to comply can result in hefty penalties. The maximum fine is $25,000 under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act. It’s estimated that there are more than 1,000 ice huts scattered across Lake Nipissing each winter.
