There’s a warning from West Nipissing police. If you get a cheque in the mail saying you’ve been chosen as a mystery shopper, Inspector Ray St. Pierre says watch out. St. Pierre says the cheque is a fake and if you cash it, you will be responsible for reimbursing the bank for the full amount. Police became aware of this latest con after a homeowner got a cheque for nearly $2,400.
The person was told as a reward for being a mystery shopper they could cash the cheque, keep $400 for themselves and return the rest to the company. St. Pierre says he can’t stress enough that if the cheque is cashed the recipient will be out quite a bit of money.
