9-1-1 enhanced in West Nipissing

It’s now easier for deaf people in West Nipissing to call 9-1-1.  There’s a new service where someone in trouble can contact emergency responders by texting T 9-1-1.   In addition to deaf people, the enhanced service can also be used for anyone hard of hearing and people with speech impediments.

However police chief Chuck Seguin says the service should not be used by the general public because they still have regular access to 9-1-1.  Also the new service does not replace TTY and the chief hopes people now use TTY for non-emergencies.
