Women urged to get screenings to prevent cervical cancer

Health Sciences North says only a small number of women in the northeast have had cervical cancer screenings.  And the hospital is encouraging more women to get screened for the disease.   Hospital spokeswoman Nicole Gauthier says it’s important for women to get screened every three years because most cervical cancers can be prevented.   Gauthier says regular check-ups are the only way to find cell changes at an early stage.  Almost half a million women in Ontario are overdue for a screening.
