Nipissing First Nation and MNR to work on sustainable fishery

The Chief of the Nipissing First Nation says he and his council are serious about the sustainability of the fishery in Lake Nipissing.  And Scott McLeod believes a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Natural Resources will help achieve that.  Both groups will work on sustainable management of the lake with an eye on ensuring the long-term health and recovery of the walleye population.

Commercial fishing on walleye was cut short last August because of over-fishing and the reserve doesn’t want to shut it down early again this year.  Meanwhile, Grand Council Chief Patrick Madahbee is congratulating the First Nation on achieving the Memorandum of Understanding.
