McDonald: No danger from derailment

North Bay mayor Al McDonald says there is no public or environmental risk from Tuesday’s train derailment in the city.  An Ontario Northland train was travelling near Peninsula Road when 25 cars came off the tracks around 5:30am.  Normally the tankers haul sulphuric acid, but McDonald says they were empty at the time.

No one was hurt and also residents of three nearby homes were evacuated but this was simply a precaution.  The clean-up of the site is underway and the investigation into the cause of the derailment continues.   The derailment caused the temporary closure of Highway 63 twice on Tuesday forcing motorists to take a detour.
