It took West Nipissing two months of steady work to put together its bid to host the International Plowing Match. And with the news that West Nipissing will host the 2019 event, it’s the second time the plowing match is coming north in more than a century. The first time was in 2009 in Earlton. Mayor Joanne Savage says Earlton attracted 70,000 and she’s hoping for a similar outcome for West Nipissing and is shooting for even more people if possible.
Contracts still have to be signed to declare West Nipissing the official site of the 2019 International Plowing Match but that’s expected to be a formality. Verner will most likely host the International Plowing Match because hundreds of acres are needed and the community has the necessary land mass.
