The Canada Revenue Agency scam continues in the region. In West Nipissing, police are getting regular complaints about fake CRA officials saying you owe them money. Constable Denis says the scammer threatens to arrest the home owner if they don’t pay. Marleau says don’t fall for this because it’s a scam.
Marleau says CRA does not try to collect money with phone calls threatening arrest. And if you get called, Marleau says don’t get into a discussion with the scammers. He says these scammers are good talkers and the longer you engage in them, the more convincing they sound. He says anyone getting this type of call should hang-up.
