North Bay council votes for regulated gas prices

North Bay council wants the Ontario government to look at how to regulate gas prices.  Councillor Mike Anthony suggested the resolution which got majority support.  Anthony says the Maritimes and Quebec regulate gas now.  He says doing the same in Ontario gives consumers some stability and less fluctuations compared to now.   Anthony admits he doesn’t know if the Liberals will listen, but says we have to start somewhere and adds sometimes complaining works.

He says there are times when enough communities push in one direction, governments back off from existing policies.  The resolution will be sent to other northern communities for support and lobby groups like FONOM.  Last week, Elliot Lake city council rejected a similar resolution proposed by its mayor.
