FONOM finds good and bad with budget

Not all northern groups are critical of last week’s provincial budget.  The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities says the budget will increase the community infrastructure fund to $300-million by 2018.  Also doubling to $30-million over the same time frame is the connecting links program.

However one area that has FONOM worried is the impact adding 4.3 cents a litre in fuel taxes will have on the north.  The lobby group says Northern Ontario already has high gas prices and the region doesn’t need prices to go further north.  Meanwhile, FONOM is silent that the Wynne Liberals simply re-announced previous commitments to the Ring of Fire without setting out a time frame.
