Major polluters get temporary break from cap and trade

As details emerge from last week’s Ontario budget, we’re learning that consumers will shoulder the burden of the cap and trade program at the start.  In Northern Ontario, Sun-media is reporting that the biggest polluters are getting a four year holiday from cap and trade.

That means companies like Vale Mine in Sudbury and Essar Steel in Sault Ste. Marie won’t feel the impact from the program until 2020.  However for consumers, the carbon program is kicking in much sooner with a gas tax of 4.3 cents a litre as well as a rise in your natural gas bill.
