Temiskaming-Cochrane MPP John Vanthof is looking over a petition from a Sudbury area family to reduce the speed limit for snowmobilers. The family is calling for a maximum speed of 80 kilometres an hour on frozen lakes. Vanthof hopes this brings attention to the issue.
He says the petition won’t guarantee a change in the speed law, but at least people will have a chance to debate the issue. A 29-year-old woman was recently hit and killed by a snowmobile near the French River while she was near an ice fishing hut.
