Accessing healthy food is a big problem for many low income people in the North Bay-Parry Sound District.
The Cost of Healthy Eating Report for 2015 shows that a family of four receiving Ontario Works spends about 90 per cent of their monthly income on rent and food alone. That only leaves $200 for utilities, clothing, transportation costs and more.
The Board of Health passed a resolution last night calling on the province to investigate what is needed for families to meet basic needs.
