FONOM: Leave coloured fuel tax free

Comments by Ontario’s environment commissioner have the Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities worried.  Diane Saxe is suggesting that coloured fuel no longer be tax exempt.  The fuel is used by many industries in Northern Ontario including the mining and forestry sector.  FONOM says the tax exemption gives industry a break at a time when high electricity rates have made them uncompetitive.  It wants the Wynne Liberals to ignore the environment commissioner’s suggestion and leave the exemption in place.
