Community safe zones are coming to North Bay’s schools. The full council votes on the proposal next week after it was approved at the committee stage Monday night. Under a community safe zone, the speed limit drops from 50 kilometres an hour to 40. Council will post signs warning motorists they’re entering safe zones. Speed fines also double in these areas. At a cost of $24,000, City Hall staff will talk to the school boards about sharing part of the bill. Meanwhile in an unrelated speed zone issue, the limit on Airport Road is being dropped to 60 kilometres an hour from the current limit of 70 kilometres an hour.
