Green party candidate says rail safety is a priority

Stuart McCall says something we can’t lose sight of during the election campaign is rail safety.

McCall, who is running for the Green Party, says earlier this year we saw two serious derailments in the Gogama area. McCall believes we can reduce derailments by getting trains to go slower, improving infrastructure and staggering the cars so there’s less chance of a chain reaction in the event of a derailment.

McCall is challenging incumbent New Democrat Claude Gravelle for the Nickel Belt seat. Also running are Dave Starbuck of the Marxist-Leninist Party, Aino Laamanen of the Tories and the Liberals’ Marc Serre.
