Council wants province to pony up cash for hospital layoffs

North Bay council is asking the province for one-time transitional funding to cope with massive hospital layoffs announced last week.  Mike Anthony proposed the motion with support from Jeff Serran.  Anthony says one-time funding would come in handy because it helps the hospital deal with costs associated with the layoffs.  Anthony and Serran both say the province has a $50-million surplus from the Pan Am Games and it gave executives of the games $6 million in bonuses.  Both say that means the province has the extra money and want part of it sent to the hospital.
