North Bay names new police chief

The North Bay police have promoted from within to replace their retiring chief.  Deputy chief Shawn Devine was named the new chief Thursday morning at police headquarters.  Devine is a 27-year veteran of the force having spent his entire career with the North Bay police.  He says policing faces challenging times and a major issue will be replacing senior officers as they retire with younger personnel.  He says studies show that despite being a high-paying job, it will be tough to get quality police officers in 10 years.   Devine says another challenge is can the North Bay police afford to keep doing the same things it has in the past.  That’s because there are more financial restraints nowadays.  Despite the challenges, Devine is excited to take on the new role.  He officially takes over January 22nd from Paul Cook who is retiring at that time.
