Northern Tory proposes amendment to SLAPP legislation

Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli is hoping to amend a proposed law that lets groups say things about companies without fear of being sued.  The Bill is known as SLAPP which means Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation.  Fedeli says as it stands now, the Bill is bad news especially for the forest industry in Northern Ontario.  It`s because groups like Greenpeace can say untrue things about the industry with the goal of hurting them financially.  Fedeli`s amendment would block groups from commenting on businesses that are a certain size.  Fedeli believes his amendment is a compromise that benefits both Northern and Southern Ontario businesses.  He says the Wynne Liberals have a chance to help forestry and mining companies in the north and they can do that by agreeing with his proposed amendment.
