Vale emergency: Second update

If you’re headed to Sudbury, be forewarned an emergency has shut down a number of roadways on Sudbury’s west side.  The closures are the result of the release of a hazardous material at the Vale mine site in Copper Cliff.  Sudbury police say the chemical agent is nitrogen dioxide which can cause breathing problems.  Closed this morning as personnel cope with the chemical are, the Big Nickel Mine Road, Regional Road 55 in both directions, the Lasalle Extension is shut down at Frood as well as Elm Street at the Big Nickel Mine Road.  Residents remain indoors and employees are being turned away at the mine site.
