Be patient if you commute through Verner

Police are asking for patience for people who live or commute through Verner.

Highway 17 will be closed from Beaudin Street to Highway 64 until September 4th for construction. Drivers travelling east and westbound will have to use municipal streets instead for six to eight blocks. You will notice more cops in the area than usual as they deal with any issues that might come to light.

West Nipissing Police officers says these tips might make your drive more bearable:

1. Back into your driveway so that you can pull away without reversing into traffic. It is often easier to back into a private drive, traffic permitting, making entering onto the highway safer and easier.

2. Avoid parking on the streets. Parked cars create narrower driving spaces and sightline issues.

3. Make eye contact with others. Look directly at a driver or pedestrian to make sure you see them and they see you.

4. Most of all – be patient and courteous.
