New activities planned for Canada Day in West Nipissing

West Nipissing is celebrating Canada Day with some new activities this year.

From 10 am to 2 pm, the Municipality says live entertainment, face painting, laser tag and more, will be held at the Marcel and Jane Labbé Arena.

Officials are also celebrating our country’s role as a FIFA World Cup co-host with some soccer-themed fun, including challenges, obstacle courses and more.

There will also be a video game truck where soccer fans can test their skills on a virtual pitch.

As is tradition, evening fireworks are also planned at the Sturgeon Falls beach, weather permitting.

Officials say that will happen around 9:30 pm.

They add parking near the beach may be challenging this year due to ongoing road work in the area.

As for Stat Holiday closures on Wednesday, the Municipal Office, landfills, Recreation Centre Pool and Fitness Room, and Sturgeon River House Museum are all closed.

Garbage and recycling won’t be collected on Wednesday either.

Garbage collection was rescheduled for Monday, June 29 while recycling pick-up takes place on Thursday, July 2.
