Laughs are back on the menu in North Bay.
Yuk Yuk’s is opening up a monthly comedy club in the city.
The Grande Event Centre and Yuk Yuk’s promoter Brian Band have teamed up, with monthly shows starting in April.
The first show is set for Saturday, April 20.
Band says the shows were going really well in Sudbury, and wanted to bring the laughs to North Bay as well.
“It’s a great city and people love to laugh,” says Band. “Why not bring the best comics in Canada to North Bay? This is exciting news for the entertainment scene in North Bay plus all the surrounding communities. Everyone loves to laugh & live comedy is the best way.”
He says each show will feature three professional comics from Yuk Yuk’s plus up-and-coming talent from across Northern Ontario.
When it comes to the venue, Band says the Grande Event Centre is a ‘fabulous location’.
“I wanted a spot where people can come out, have a good time, can sit a lot of people and the sight lines are good,” says Band. “When you’re bringing the professional comics to the city, you want a good location where people can have a really good time. It’s perfect.”
The opening show next month will feature national touring headliner Chuck Byrn, who has been nominated for Canadian comic of the year plus appeared at Just Laughs and on NBC’s last comic standing.
“One of the things you hear in Northern Ontario a lot is there isn’t enough things to do in your own backyard,” says Band. “So this is bringing Canada’s top comedy to North Bay and it’s terrific for everybody involved.”
Band says you’ll be able to watch great comics perform every four or five weeks, for now.
“If this goes well, there are opportunities to add more shows on the menu and keep doing big things. Hopefully, we’ll have a New Year’s Eve [comedy show] as well. I think it’s something that’s going to grow, as long as North Bay supports it.”
A dinner menu will be available at every show and there is free parking for all guests at the Grande Event Centre.
