Snowmobile trails closed after ‘most challenging’ season

Local snowmobile trails are closed.

In West Nipissing, the snowmobile club says it was the “worst winter on record” and has pulled the pin on this year’s season.

Officials are asking riders to respect landowners and to stay off the trails, adding they hope the snow will stick around until April next year.

“Trails in the North Bay area are closed,” says Shawn Flindall with the North Bay Snowmobile Club. “If the warm temperatures didn’t kill them, the rainstorm sure did.”

He adds a few trails remain open, but they won’t last long.

“After all the prep work and anticipation local trails were only open for 19 days,” Flindall says. “[It was] the shortest and most challenging season on record, for sure.”

He also says despite the mercury taking a deep dive, he doesn’t think trails will open back up.

“What a huge, helmet-head bummer,” Flindall says.
