The Special Olympics National Winter Games start next week in Calgary with a few local athletes on Team Ontario.

West Nipissing’s Jason Coleman and North Bay’s Jackelyn Osborne are competing in snowshoeing.

North Bay’s Hudson Booth will be cross-country skiing at the games.

Mission staff and coaches include North Bay’s Michelle Cundari, Shannon Johnson and Lisa O’Kane, who is also the provincial team’s family liaison.

“As a member of the Mission Staff for Team Ontario for the upcoming National Winter Games for Special Olympics, we are so excited to watch Team Ontario athletes compete against the best in the country in Calgary,” says O’Kane. “I encourage everyone to tune in to the Special Olympics Canada YouTube channel or the Facebook Page for Special Olympics Ontario to watch these amazing athletes perform.”

Other sports at the games include 5-pin bowling, alpine skiing, curling, figure skating, floor hockey and speed skating.

The national games take place Feb. 27 to March 2.
