Nipissing West OPP say human remains discovered in 2010 have been identified

A man whose body was found in West Nipissing nearly 13 and a half years ago has now been identified thanks to advanced DNA testing.

That from Ontario Provincial Police, which says in Sept. 2010, human remains were discovered in an area on Lac Clair Road, north of Highway 17.

A postmortem found no signs of foul play, but the man had no ID and could not be identified.

Over the years police issued missing person reports, checked fingerprint records across Canada and the United States, and even released a facial reconstruction, but to no avail.

They say advanced DNA testing done last year matched one collected from an individual listed in a family DNA tree, which was then confirmed by additional testing.

The OPP says the deceased has been identified as a man born in 1964 and before he died, he was living in the Windsor area.

Officials say his name is not being released as foul play was not involved and out of respect for the family’s privacy.
