Progress continues on Northland Passenger Rail Service

Progress continues to be made on the resumption of the Northland Passenger Rail Service by its target date of 2026.

Ontario Northland Transportation Commission Chairman Al Spacek says there are a number of different projects happening simultaneously including the consultation hearings learning about what northerners what to see in the service.

“There is work going on regards to the track upgrades that will be necessary and work to upgrade the stops that the train will be stopping in the various communities,” says Spacek.

He adds engineering and planning continues on the new terminus in South Porcupine with full work on the project expected underway in the next couple of years.

Spacek says the province’s funding support of the northlander has been unprecedented with the purchase of new train sets and he’s proud of the work that is being done, adding he believes that people in the north deserve high quality transportation like they have elsewhere in the province.
