Legion Poppy campaign starts Friday

The Royal Canadian Legion’s 2023 National Poppy Campaign officially begins on Friday.

On top of donation boxes in local stores, tag days are scheduled for the next two Saturdays.

Local Veterans and Legion members will be outside a variety of businesses accepting donations to the poppy fund.

“This is one of the most important times of the year for our Branch,” says Ron Devost, Callander Legion 445 President. “All poppy funds collected remain local and are used to directly assist Veterans and their families in times of need.”

The Legion says the poppy provides a visual pledge to honour Canada’s Veterans and remember those who sacrificed for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Remembrance Day ceremonies are taking place in North Bay, Callander and West Nipissing on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Bonfield’s ceremony is on Nov. 9 with East Ferris holding its ceremony the next day.
