Record-setting food drive in West Nipissing

École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité set a new record with its annual food drive for the West Nipissing Food Bank.

That’s the word from officials with Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord, who say thanks to the community over 21,500 pounds of non-perishable food items were collected along with over $2,500 in monetary donations.

Les Patriotes are thanking the entire West Nipissing community for their generosity, along with  students, staff, and families of La Résurrection, Saint-Joseph, Sainte-Marguerite-d’Youville and Christ-Roi French-language Catholic elementary schools.

“We all play a very important role in society in the fight against food insecurity, and the “Une canne ça dépanne” project teaches students to care about their neighbour and, as responsible citizens, that they have a duty to support local organizations” says Mr. René Dubuc, principal of École secondaire catholique Franco-Cité. “Giving back fosters happiness and a sense of gratitude.”

He adds the project remains a tradition that students and staff look forward to participating in every year.
