Aspin reminds local families to check if they are eligible for the Universal Child Care Benefit…

You could be eligible for a cheque from the federal government, and not even know it.

Canada’s Minister of Employment and Social Development was in North Bay yesterday, along with MP Jay Aspin, to raise awareness about the Universal Child Care Benefit. Families will receive almost $2,000 a year for each child they have under 6 years old, and an additional $700 for each child between 6 and 17. ‘

The first cheques are being mailed out to families in North Bay on Monday, but some have not registered. Aspin says they are looking for an estimated 375 families in the North Bay area that are eligible but were missed by the system. Go to www.canada.ca/taxsavings to see if you are one of them.
