The West Nipissing Emergency Control Group (ECG) is discussing the current flooding conditions in our area.
The group, which features officials from the Fire and Emergency Service, OPP, West Nipissing Power Generation and the municipality, says significant precipitations have caused localized flooding along the Sturgeon River.
That includes Leduc Rd. and Highway 64 in Field, along with some lakefront properties.
On Thursday, the MNRF issued a flood warning for the Sturgeon River Watershed. The agency says they’re closely monitoring the weather and further updates will be issued as appropriate.
ECG officials say although dryer weather will help stabilize the river, lake water levels are forecasted to continue rising in our area.
The group recommends shoreline property owners be prepared for flooding, and sandbags are available for purchase at Sturgeon Falls Home Hardware, Simcoe Northern Supply, and OCP Construction Supplies in North Bay.
The group says residents residing near or across a body of water, it’s recommended your home be equipped with emergency essentials. They add you should also watch conditions closely and use caution when travelling on any road in low-lying areas as road conditions can deteriorate rapidly, and to keep an eye on children and pets due to the dangers of high water levels.
Members of the Emergency Control Group are patrolling daily to assess changes and to ensure public safety. To report an emergency, please call 911. To report flooding concerns or road washouts, please contact the Municipal Office at 705 753-2250 or 705 753-1170 after business hours.
