Flood watch issued by MNRF for the area

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has issued a flood watch for the North Bay District, south of Marten River.

Officials say warm temperatures have started the release of water from the snowpack and the snowmelt will continue throughout the weekend.

“Some areas are experiencing a rapid melt of the accumulated snow which is causing moderate to rapid increases in water levels and flows,” states a release.

According to the ministry, structures such as homes, boat houses and docks could be at risk of flooding if located near lake/river level.

Residents in these areas are being encouraged to monitor conditions and prepare accordingly.

A flood watch is issued when there is the potential for flooding within specific watercourses and municipalities.

The ministry says the flood watch is in effect until Apr. 20.
