Two people dead after house fire in French River area

Ontario Provincial Police report two deaths are being investigated after a residential structure fire in the French River area.

The Nipissing West OPP says emergency crews responded to the fire on Highway 64 shortly before 9 pm on Jan. 11. 

Two people were found dead and the OPP says while the cause of death cannot yet be confirmed, investigators believe there is no imminent threat to public safety. 

The victim’s identities have not been released.

The investigation continues with the OPP Nipissing West Crime Unit and OPP North Bay Forensic Identification Services (FIS) in conjunction with the Office of the Fire Marshal (OFM) and the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and Ontario Forensic Pathology service (OCCO-OFPS).

Residents of that area should expect to see a police presence.
