Mining company calls on feds to pursue rare earth elements

A company trying to open a uranium mine in Elliot Lake is calling on the feds to develop a national strategy on rare earth elements.  In addition to uranium, Pele Mountain is developing a rare earth operation in Elliot Lake.  Rare earth elements aren’t rare – it’s just that China controls more than 90 percent of the world market and it’s exporting less.  The elements are used in numerous everyday electronic devices.  Pele president Al Shefsky says rare earth mines can create wealth and adds Canada has to act now otherwise it will be left behind by other countries.
