FedNor funding celebrates Small Business Week

Fifteen small business initiatives across the north are getting federal money – including one in the North Bay area.

Over $8.1 million in FedNor funding is helping to create and maintain over 680 jobs.

Locally, NECO Community Futures Development Corporation is receiving $1.6 million.

The money is supporting ongoing operations for the next five years, ensuring the organization can continue to provide business counselling and investment services to small and medium-sized businesses and leadership in community strategic planning.

“Today’s announcement clearly demonstrates that the federal government is committed to working at a grassroots level to create jobs and promote business development and growth while generating economic results for the people and businesses of Nipissing-Timiskaming, and across Northern Ontario,” says Anthony Rota, Member of Parliament for Nipissing–Timiskaming.

The federal government says the funding was announced in recognition of Small Business Week, which runs Oct. 16-22, and to celebrate the spirit of entrepreneurship in the North.
