A 78-year-old from West Nipissing is dead after police say they were hit by a vehicle in Sturgeon Falls yesterday.

OPP officials say officers responded to a call of a crash at the intersection of Michaud and Queen streets around 4:00 pm. They add the investigation indicates that a vehicle struck a motorized scooter.

Carmen Robidas of West Nipissing was pronounced dead at the scene.

The intersection was closed for approximately four hours, while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement Team (T.I.M.E.) attended to process the scene.

The investigation is still ongoing and police are asking anyone with video surveillance, at or near that intersection, during or before that time frame, to contact the Nipissing West Detachment of the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
